Jobs-to-be-done (JTBD) is a neat framework for looking at products not just as functional things, but that they serve more emotional or hedonic needs.

JTBD is good for asking:

  • What do people really use this for?
  • What non-functional things does this product do?

It’s not good for answering:

  • What would they like?
  • How should we market this?
